As you can see I have two good sized windows on the left wall and a sofa table with a picture hanging above it.
Then there is the wall on your right, empty!
I saw Candice Olson on her show Divine Design tackle a similar size wall in a dining room in one of her makeovers. She had a template that told her the different size frames to buy and how to lay them out on the wall. She then took a bunch of the families pictures and had them printed in black and white to put into the frames. It turned out great, so that is what I have been looking for. I did find some frames that came along with a template at Michael's, however, the frames were black and as you can see in my pictures I have no black in my living room. I would like to either do silver or brown frames.
What do you think, have any other ideas that I could do on that wall besides a bunch of family pictures???
First of all, I am not stalking you. I was reading Kelly's minivansarehot blog and was clicking through some links and found your blog. Love it! I wondered how you guys were doing. I will have to tell Jac how Claire is doing.
ReplyDeleteRe: the wall. I think your idea is perfect. We have a couple of walls that resemble yours and I would like to do what you are talking about but using trip photos - places we have been. So some would have people in them and some would be more scenic/architectural.
You should go to Garden Ridge - they have a great selection of frames at good prices. I would love to use the Pottery Barn gallery frames, but those are too pricey.

they may be at a fun age, but it's a lot harder to keep up with them now!
ReplyDeleteok, as per your instructions I came over to have a look at "the wall". It looks way way to much like mine for my comfort! But I do have some ideas.
1. When it comes to templates, you don't really need them. When I want to do a wall like that I take the frames I want to use and lay them on brown butcher paper. I trace around the shapes and then cut out the shapes. Afte that, one peice of tape will allow you to move the "frames" from spot to spot until you get a layout you like.
2. Have you considered getting 3 or 4 floating shelves that you can stagger on the wall. You can hang them at different levels and heights across the wall. You can still do a few frames, but you can also add some really great decor too. Go here and scroll down to the floating shelves to see what I'm talking about.

I just boought 5 for my bedroom walls. I won't have them hung any time soon, but I will post pics when I do. I love the idea of having a big B&C for the shelves.
3. Another idea would be to collect an item you like and hang them in a long straight line. For example, I collect crosses. I have them hung all over my house, and on one wall I have 7 in a row. they all look different but kinda tie together based on size, texture and color. Other things you can hang are tiles, plates, record covers, or even the first letter of your last name.
Maybe a bookshelf or some sort of display cabinet with glass windows?
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the idea of the frames! I will definitely do that in our next house! I am a picture nut, though!
ReplyDeleteI also like the idea of frames.
ReplyDeleteInstead of using pictures of the children, you could do pictures of you and Cory as babies/toddlers, your parents, grandparents, older pictures that you or your family may have, but not sure what to do with. I also made copies of some pictures, too.
I waited for a sale at Michaels and bought 17x14 and mats then put them up on the wall with my family one one side and Chris's on the other..they come together in the middle of course. We did this when we first moved eight years ago and it has been a huge conversation piece when people come to our house. Just a thought.
